GANGTOK: A meeting of the Bharat Tibbat Sahyog Manch (BTSM), Sikkim Chapter, was held on September 22 at a Gangtok hotel under the presidency of Dr. L. P. Sharma.
BTSM general secretary MN Dhungel opened the meeting by presenting the agenda, a press release informs. Members took a moment to honor Dr. Sharma, who recently received the “Gaurav Puraskar” on September 6 in New Delhi. The award was presented during a special event organized by Hamro Swabhiman Trust in recognition of Dr. Sharma’s significant contributions to the society and the country.
The meeting also celebrated Dr. Sharma’s promotion to Coordinator of the Eastern Zone.
Vice-President Pema Wangda proposed extending Dr. Sharma’s presidency for another year, a proposal seconded by Prof. Rudra Poudyal and supported unanimously by Radha Pandey and other prominent members, including Dayaram Bhattarai, president of Six Tibetan Organizations in Sikkim.
It was unanimously decided that since it may take time to come to consensus on the new presidential candidate, Dr. Sharma need to continue in the post of president in addition to his new post till a new president is finalized, the release informs.
The agenda also included discussions on the upcoming 13th Tawang Tirtha Yatra, anticipated to attract many participants. Members shared their experiences from previous yatras, encouraging broader participation this year.
In his concluding remarks, Dr. Sharma expressed gratitude for the support and emphasized the importance of collaboration to advance BTSM’s objectives.
