GANGTOK: Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Wednesday participated in a high-level video conference with Union Minister for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), Jyotiraditya Scindia, to deliberate on the development roadmap for Viksit Sikkim in alignment with the national vision of Viksit Bharat@2047, as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The virtual meeting focused on reviewing ongoing and proposed developmental initiatives in Sikkim, particularly those receiving support from the Central Government.
The Chief Minister expressed his sincere gratitude to Minister Scindia for his comprehensive review and valuable guidance. He lauded the Minister’s insightful observations and constructive feedback, highlighting their importance in driving inclusive growth and regional empowerment.
Key areas of discussion included the immense potential of Sikkim in the fields of tourism and organic farming. A significant highlight was the emphasis on expediting the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Vibrant Villages Programme, aimed at transforming remote and frontier areas of the state through improved infrastructure, enhanced connectivity, and livelihood opportunities.
The Chief Minister also drew attention to the strategic significance of the Chiwabhanjyang corridor, which he noted could serve as a vital link for cross-border trade with Eastern Nepal. He further underscored the importance of promoting homestays in remote villages to empower local communities, boost the rural economy, and promote sustainable tourism practices.
The discussions reaffirmed the Central Government’s continued support, which has already catalyzed growth in Sikkim’s tourism sector, with several key infrastructure projects currently underway.
Reiterating the State Government’s commitment to development, the Chief Minister stressed the need to sustain this momentum and create tourism-led growth across all regions of Sikkim.
He extended heartfelt thanks to Minister Scindia for spearheading focused deliberations on crucial sectors such as Organic Farming, the Vibrant Villages Programme, Strategic Trade and Infrastructure Corridors, and the development of Tourism Circuits. He highlighted the importance of ensuring high-quality services, skilled manpower, and hospitable infrastructure to meet the needs of tourists.

In conclusion, the Chief Minister also acknowledged the contributions of the secretary of MDoNER, the chief secretary of the Government of Sikkim, and all officials involved in organizing the impactful and future-oriented interaction. He expressed confidence that this collaborative spirit will accelerate the shared goal of building a resilient, developed, and prosperous Sikkim, an essential pillar of Viksit Bharat@2047.
