GANGTOK: The Technology Innovation Hub (TIH) at IIT Guwahati welcomed Dr. Indra Hang Subba, Member of Parliament from Sikkim, for a special visit to the campus on Saturday. The main aim of the visit was to explore ways to strengthen academic and research collaboration between IIT Guwahati and educational institutions in Sikkim.
Dr. Subba began his visit with a meeting with the Director of IIT Guwahati, followed by discussions with Prof. S. K. Dwivedy, Director of TIH, and Mr. N. N. Dutta, CEO of TIH. A formal welcome session was also held where Dr. Subba was felicitated by Prof. Dwivedy.
As part of the visit, Dr. Subba was introduced to key research and innovation projects being carried out at TIH. Faculty members made detailed presentations on:
• India’s Quantum Mission and future developments – by Prof. Amarendra Kumar Sarma & Team
• Implementation of Quantum Technologies – by Prof. Saurabh Basu & Team
• Dam Safety and Riverbed Monitoring – by Prof. S. Dutta
The MP also took part in a networking session with researchers and faculty members and toured TIH’s modern research labs and facilities, accompanied by Mr. Anurag Tiwari, CTO.
The main objective of Dr. Subba’s visit was to:
• Explore research collaboration between IIT Guwahati, Sikkim University, and NIT Sikkim
• Create student and scholar exchange programs
• Provide access to IIT Guwahati’s advanced laboratories for students and researchers from Sikkim
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Subba appreciated the strong research culture at IIT Guwahati. He emphasized the importance of using advanced technologies for the sustainable development of the Himalayan region, especially in fields like quantum computing, hydropower safety, and environmental monitoring.
“Such partnerships are expected to open doors for students and researchers from Sikkim to access advanced laboratories, expert guidance, and cutting-edge technologies at IIT Guwahati. These collaborations could also help address regional challenges in areas like disaster management, hydropower, climate studies, and sustainable development,” expressed Dr. Subba.
Notably, Dr. Indra Hang Subba is also a researcher. He completed his Ph.D. in Experimental Physics from Sikkim University in 2023.
The visit was coordinated by Dr. Ankur Gupta and Mr. Rishi Ghosh, under the leadership of Prof. Santosh K. Dwivedy, Project Director of TIH, and Mr. N. N. Dutta, CEO of TIH.
This visit marks another step towards bridging research institutions with policy and governance, ensuring that cutting-edge innovations can be harnessed to address regional and national challenges, a press release informs.
