PAKYONG: An awareness programme on ‘Meri Policy Meri Haat’ under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana’ (PMFBY) was conducted today at the RDD Community Complex, RURBAN, Pakyong, under the chairmanship of Rohan Agawane, DC Pakyong on October 22.
The event was organised by the Agriculture department, Pakyong District in coordination with the Future Generali Insurance Company, Common Service Centre (CSC), Horticulture department and Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Pakyong.
‘Meri Policy Mere Haath’ is an initiative under PMFBY aimed at increasing awareness and transparency in crop insurance. It ensures farmers receive printed copies of their insurance policies, detailing coverage, premiums, and claims. The initiative educates farmers on enrollment, renewal, and claim processes, encouraging wider participation to protect crops against natural calamities, pests, and diseases.
The DC Pakyong, in his address, highlighted the significance of collaboration between the Agriculture and Horticulture department, Future Generali Insurance Company, and the CSC to ensure the success of the ‘Meri Policy Meri Haat’ initiative under PMFBY.
He urged the department to focus on increasing enrollment by targeting more farmers and directed the insurance company to maintain close coordination with the farmers, particularly in providing efficient claim support and policy issuance. Additionally, he instructed CSC to work in coordination with both the department and the insurance company, assisting farmers with enrollment, renewals, and claims, thereby streamlining the process and achieving the scheme’s objectives.
Tshering Chopel Bhutia, additional director, Agriculture and Horticulture departments, urged the CSC and the insurance company to actively participate in the initiative. He instructed field functionaries to conduct extensive awareness programmes to educate farmers about the scheme.
Additionally, he announced the dates for block level awareness activities and called for combined efforts to ensure maximum participation and understanding among farmers regarding the benefits of the scheme.
At the outset of the program, Rebecca Gurung, deputy director, Agriculture department, welcomed the attendees and outlined the aim of the event. Further, she highlighted the key objectives, which included discussions on empowering farmers and ensuring financial stability in agricultural practices through PMFBY.
Amitabha Nandy, CSC State in-charge, informed the attendees that CSCs have been established in every Gram Panchayat Unit (GPU) of the district. Furthermore, he emphasised the commitment of these centres to support farmers by providing access to essential services. In addition, he encouraged everyone to visit the centres to make use of the available resources.
Likewise, Kailash Subba, a representative from Future Generali Insurance Company, presented a PowerPoint presentation on PMFBY. He provided an overview of the scheme, including details on insurance for notified crops, the loaning period, and the block wise enrollment status.
The event included the distribution of insurance policies to farmers, followed by an open discussion.
Also present in the programme were officials from the Agriculture and Horticulture department, representatives from CSC, representatives from ATMA and farmers.
