SORENG: The district-level Independence Day celebrations in Soreng entered their sixth day with Mrs Sarda Tamang gracing the occasion as the chief guest.
In her address, Mrs Sarda Tamang congratulated the District Level Independence Day Celebration Committee for their successful coordination of the event and extended heartfelt gratitude to all freedom fighters for their invaluable contribution in securing India’s independence. She urged every individual to contribute meaningfully to society and the nation, emphasising the importance of ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ and ‘Nasha Mukt Sikkim Abhiyan’. She also highlighted the significance of women’s empowerment as a key driver of social progress.
Upon arrival, the dignitaries were warmly welcomed with bouquets and garlands, followed by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. As a token of love and respect, mementos were presented to the chief guest and other guests of honour.
The day’s programme began with the ‘Nasha Mukt’ Pledge, administered by District Collector Mr Dhiraj Subedi, reaffirming the district’s commitment to a drug-free Sikkim.
This was followed by a soulful Patriotic Song presented by Assistant Director Culture Department Mr Suman Shree.

• Skit Presentation by Government JHS Malbasey.
• Patriotic Group Song by Government Senior Secondary School Timburbong.
• Patriotic Fancy Dress & Slogan Presentation on Freedom Fighters by Kharpaney Primary School
