Namchi, 7 September 2024 (IPR): The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), convened an Orientation and Coordination Meeting to prepare for mock exercises on Earthquake and Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) at the District Administrative Centre (DAC) in Namchi today.
The meeting was presided over by Dr TN Gyatsho, Senior Superintendent of Police (Sr SP) Namchi; Miss Tirsang Tamang, Additional District Commissioner (ADC) Namchi; Mr Nim Pintso Bhutia, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Namchi (HQ); Dr SN Adhikari, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Namchi; Mr Suraj Rai, Chief Education Officer (CEO); alongside other officials from various departments and stakeholders from across the Namchi district.
Dr TN Gyatsho outlined the primary objective of the district-level mock exercise: to evaluate the district’s preparedness for specific disaster scenarios involving earthquakes and GLOF. The meeting included discussions on finalising staging areas for the mock exercises, emphasising the essential role of stakeholders and departmental coordination. He stressed the importance of first responders being well-prepared for the final drill and ensuring comprehensive public awareness and participation to prevent any errors during the exercise.
Mr Nim Pintso Bhutia provided an overview of the roles and responsibilities assigned to the designated Nodal Officers and NGOs. The officers also deliberated on the staging areas and venues for the mock exercises, identifying various locations across the district to be used for the drill based on different calamity scenarios.
It is noteworthy that the District Level Mock Drill exercise is scheduled to take place on 12 September 2024.
