GANGTOK: The Sikkim Soldierathon, a Hill Marathon, was conducted in the capital today. This event was organized by Fitistan-Ek Fit Bharat in collaboration with the Eastern Command and Trishakti Corps of the Indian Army, with the objective of honouring the sacrifice, valour, and heroism of soldiers while strengthening the bond between the Indian Army and the citizens of India.

The marathon themed ‘Run with our Soldiers’ witnessed the participation of over 1,500 individuals from various regions across the country. The event commenced at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok with an official flag-off ceremony.

The 5 km Fun Run attracted participants from diverse backgrounds, fostering a spirit of unity in tribute to our soldiers. The 21 km and 10 km formats featured intense competition among seasoned runners from both the state and national levels.
In his message to the runners Lieutenant General Ram Chander Tiwari, GOC-in-C, Eastern Command, stated that “Every step you take is a tribute to the valour and sacrifice of our soldiers guarding these borders. I am honoured to be part of this new initiative to promote a Fit India and strengthen the bond between the Indian Army and our citizens”.
The Chief Guest honoured all winners and participants at the Valedictory event by presenting them with mementoes, medals and promotional items.

The event was graced by M T Sherpa, Secretary of the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs; Tushar Nikhare, District Collector of Gangtok; Major General Amit Kabthiyal, General Officer Commanding of the 17th Mountain Division; and Sandhya Gurung, a recipient of the Dronacharya Award, along with other distinguished dignitaries.
All the participants who completed their runs were felicitated with a medal. Earlier in the event, cultural performances were presented by personnel from the Indian Army, highlighting the rich and diverse cultures of India.
