GANGTOK: Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang chaired a coordination meeting at Samman Bhawan on Wednesday for the preparations of the upcoming Aama Samman Diwas, scheduled to take place on August 10 in Rangpo. The event is aimed at celebrating and honouring the unconditional love, sacrifices, and lifelong contributions of mothers from across Sikkim.
As part of the programme, eligible mothers who meet the criteria set by the State Government will be felicitated and awarded cheques under the Ama Sashaktikaran Yojana, a government initiative designed to empower and uplift women across the State.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister highlighted the crucial role of mothers in shaping society. He described mothers as caregivers, educators, and mentors who instill essential values such as compassion, empathy, and responsibility in their children, values that serve as the foundation of a strong and morally conscious society.
The Chief Minister issued clear directives to all attendees, including Cabinet Ministers, Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), Advisors, Political Secretaries, Officers on Special Duty (OSDs), Constituency-Level Committee (CLC) Presidents, the Secretary of the Women, Child, Senior Citizen and Divyangjan Welfare Department, and other officials. He urged them to form dedicated teams in each constituency to identify genuine and deserving beneficiaries with complete fairness and transparency.
“No deserving mother should be left out, and no injustice should occur in the selection process,” the Chief Minister stressed, calling for a collective effort marked by sincerity and integrity.
Describing the initiative as more than just a government scheme, the Chief Minister referred to it as a heartfelt tribute to the enduring strength and spirit of motherhood.
