PAKYONG: In a celebration of potential and progress, Member of Parliament, Dr Indra Hang Subba, graced the District Outreach Programme on Skill Development under Sikkim Inspires held on Wednesday at the Community Hall, Pakyong, marking the observance of World Youth Skills Day 2025.
Organised by ITI Rangpo and the Skill Development Department, in collaboration with the District Skill Committee, Pakyong, the programme aims to raise awareness on the growing importance of skill development and promote active participation in building a skilled, confident, and job-ready generation.
In his address, Member of Parliament, Dr Indra Hang Subba emphasised the growing relevance of skill development in the present era, stating that this is a time where skills go beyond traditional definitions. He underscored that education must be complemented with practical, survival-based skills to enable youth to thrive in an increasingly dynamic world. Acknowledging the evolving nature of employment and the rise of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, he urged the youth to embrace innovation wisely while fostering creative thinking, adaptability, and resilience.
He encouraged students to cultivate a lifelong learning mindset and adapt to new tools and techniques that shape their future. He also appealed to teachers and institutions to play a vital role in nurturing these attributes among youth, preparing them to take on future responsibilities with confidence and competence.
Furthermore, reflecting on Sikkim’s achievements, the MP noted that the State has proudly completed 50 glorious years of progress. He highlighted the ongoing efforts of the State Government in promoting vocational education and skill-based training, acknowledging the commendable work of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across Sikkim in empowering youth with employable skills.
Marking the observance of World Youth Skills Day, he reiterated that the objective of the day is to equip young individuals with the competencies needed to contribute meaningfully to the economy and national development.
Additionally, Dr Subba touched upon the significance of Samvidhan Hatya Diwas, urging students not to forget its historical relevance. He stressed the importance of understanding the Constitution and the need for every citizen to remain committed to safeguarding democratic values by being aware, responsible, and participative.
As part of the event, a skit presented by ITI Rangpo that depicted the strength and value of skills in contemporary society. A PowerPoint presentation on Artificial Intelligence (AI) was also delivered, focusing on its significance and practical application in today’s fast-evolving skill development landscape.
The event was further highlighted by the screening of a commemorative video showcasing the 50-year journey of Government ITI Rangpo, reflecting on its legacy, achievements, and contributions to vocational education in the State.
The programme was also attended by Zilla Adhakshya Pakyong District, Laden Lhamu Bhutia; Zilla Upadhyaksha, Prabha Pradhan; District Collector, Pakyong, Rohan Agawane; Additional Superintendent of Police Pakyong District, ML Pradhan; Additional Secretary Skill Development Department, Samdup Bhutia; Chief Education Officer, Narayan Mishra; SDM Pakyong, Dak Man Subba; zilla members; panchayat members; heads of offices from various departments, officials from various departments, students and faculty members of ITI Rangpo.
