
A significant step toward promoting Sikkim’s local talent and cultural identity was taken as the
first coordination meeting for an upcoming Sikkim-based film project by filmmaker Kankana
Chakraborty from Kolkata was successfully conducted at the office of the Chairman, Dance,
Drama, Music and Film Board, Government of Sikkim.
Filmmaker Kankana Chakraborty, who has expressed her deep desire to create a film rooted
in a story close to her heart related to Sikkim, aims to collaborate extensively with local artists.
Her vision includes engaging local cast members, musicians, technicians, hair and makeup
artists, and other creative professionals from Sikkim to ensure authentic representation and to
provide maximum opportunities to the state’s talent pool.
This vision resonates strongly with the Chief Minister of Sikkim Shree Prem Singh
Tamang (Golay), whose continuous efforts emphasize the promotion of Sikkimese artists and
artisans at both national and international platforms.

The meeting was held in the esteemed presence of Chairman, Dance, Drama, Music
and Film Board Shree Tashi Tshering Bhutia, Chairman, Sports Development Board,
Government of Sikkim Shree Rinzing Wongyal Chopel, Former Principal Director /
Renowned Actor Shree Bharat Basistha, executive members of the SKM Culture Wing,
Shree Uttam Pradhan (President), Dr. Manoj Rai (Vice President), Shree Manoj
Lama (Chief Coordinator), Ms. Revna Shilal (Organisation Secretary), Filmmaker Shree
Pavi Ratna Shakya, and Filmmaker Kankana Chakraborty and her team from Kolkata. who
narrated the script and discussed the project’s requirements, feasibilities for collaboration, and
the roadmap for production activities in Sikkim.
The session concluded with a strong collective commitment to supporting the filmmaker’s
vision and further strengthening Sikkim’s creative industry. This collaboration is expected to
open new avenues for local talents and reinforce Sikkim’s growing presence in the Indian film
landscape.
