A team from Sikkim’s Dirty Angels Motorcycle Club (DAMC) on Sunday met the executive members of the Thamel Tourism Development Council in Kathmandu, Nepal, and formally handed over the funds collected through the recent Nepal Flood Relief Donation Drive.
The donation drive was organised by DAMC in association with the Organization of Musicians and Artistes of Sikkim (OMAS) on September 1 and 2 at MG Marg, Gangtok, to support people affected by the devastating floods in Nepal.
Through the generosity and support of people from Sikkim who contributed to the noble cause, a total of NPR 7,15,104 (Nepalese Rupees Seven Lakh Fifteen Thousand One Hundred Four only) was collected during the two-day campaign.
The entire amount collected will be contributed to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund, Government of Nepal, to support relief and recovery efforts for those affected by the floods, said the DAMC and Thamel Tourism Development Council in a press statement.
“We sincerely thank every individual who came forward and contributed to this humanitarian cause. Your generosity has shown that borders may separate us geographically, but compassion and humanity bring us together. Special thanks to the Thamel Tourism Development Council for its cooperation and support in facilitating this initiative,” DAMC said.
The Thamel Tourism Development Council also extended its heartfelt gratitude to DAMC, OMAS and the people of Sikkim for their solidarity and financial support towards relief efforts in Nepal.
The Sikkim delegation comprised Chief Minister’s Additional Political Secretary (Gangtok) Tshering Wangchuk Lepcha, along with founder members and executives of DAMC.
Thamel Tourism Development Council chairman Rajuman Dangol said the goodwill and support extended for humanitarian service, rising above geographical boundaries, national borders and differences in nationality during times of disaster, was a beautiful reflection of the historic warmth, friendship and people-to-people emotional ties between Nepal and Sikkim.
He said the support provided was not merely relief for families affected by the floods, but also an inspiring message of humanity and of standing by one another in times of difficulty.
During the programme, the Sikkim delegation was honoured with certificates of appreciation presented by the chairman of the Thamel Tourism Development Council.
The Thamel Tourism Development Council expressed its heartfelt respect and gratitude to OMAS, DAMC, all the generous supporters from Sikkim, distinguished guests and coordinators who provided their support, cooperation and goodwill towards this important humanitarian initiative.
The council also expressed the hope that the close relationship, goodwill and cooperation between Nepal and Sikkim would continue to grow stronger and deeper in the days ahead, while conveying its sincere thanks and gratitude to everyone who contributed to the humanitarian campaign.
Representing the Sikkim delegation, Chief Minister’s Additional Political Secretary Tshering Wangchuk Lepcha expressed solidarity and support from the people of Sikkim towards Nepal and its people in the wake of the devastating floods. He said the entire State of Sikkim, along with the government led by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), stands in solidarity with the flood-affected families of Nepal and is committed to extending all possible support. He also highlighted the Chief Minister’s appeal to the people and organisations of Sikkim to come forward and show their solidarity and support for the people of Nepal during this difficult time.
