SORENG: The Chief Minister of Sikkim, Mr Prem Singh Tamang, graced the Silver Jubilee Celebration of Mount Sinai Academy, Zoom in Soreng district as the Chief Guest on Tuesday.
To mark the occasion, the Chief Minister unveiled a commemorative plaque celebrating 25 glorious years of the school’s legacy. This was followed by a visit to the Science Exhibition-cum-Stalls put up by the students, which showcased various innovative scientific projects and ideas. The exhibition also featured handcrafted models that reflected the creativity and practical skills of the students.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the Chief Minister extended his gratitude to School Management Committee (SMC) for inviting him to the celebration and congratulated everyone present. He then remarked that his presence to the occasion could serve as encouragement to the local residents.
Additionally, the Chief Minister lauded the dedication of the school principal, highlighting his academic background and commending his sacrifice and commitment to the welfare of the people. Recalling his past association with the area, he described his memories of the place as unforgettable. He also praised the achievements of the school and its alumni in various fields and highlighted the government’s support for aspiring individuals. Encouraging the youth, he called upon them to identify their talents and utilize them for personal growth and regional development.
Further, urging collective efforts for the development of the region, the Chief Minister assured the gathering of necessary and timely assistance from the government.
Speaking on infrastructure development, he thanked the residents for their cooperation and informed that the Zoom road extension would include wall beautification with an aesthetically enhanced road wall.
Referring to the diverse festivals celebrated by different communities, the Chief Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding the culture and traditions of all communities.
Concluding his address, he announced upcoming talent hunt programmes to be held during Maghe Sankranti, featuring attractive cash prizes to motivate participants to pursue their dreams. He further urged the public to make full use of the support and opportunities provided by the government.
Initially, while delivering the welcome address, Principal (Mount Sinai Academy) Mr John Rai highlighted the school’s contributions and the significant roles played by its alumni in both government and non-government organisations. He also acknowledged the Chief Minister, mentioning his dedication and valuable contributions over the years.
As a mark of appreciation, the school felicitated the Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang, along with the MLA (Salghari-Zoom Constituency) Mr Madan Cintury, presenting them with Letters of Appreciation.
In a special felicitation ceremony, the school recognised the achievements of several distinguished individuals across various fields including Mr Pravin Rai, Dr. Hemlatta Rai, Mr Jai Kumar Rai and Mrs Sushma Mukhia. The founding members of the school were also honoured for their invaluable contributions. The honoured founders included Mr John Rai, Mr Chandrakanta Rai, Mr Pawan Kumar Rai, Mr Mahindra Rai, Mr Dhiraj Rai, Mrs Binu Rai, Mrs Leena Rai, Mrs Albina Rai, Mrs Purna Maya Rai, Ms Neeta Rai and Mr Anup Rai.
The event also featured the final matches of volleyball and the women’s Tug of War competition. In the volleyball final, Soratey faced Sajbotey Boyz and emerged victorious, while in the women’s Tug of War final Chumbung GPU defeated Zoom GPU.
The programme concluded with a prize distribution ceremony for the winners.
