GANGTOK: The Ambassador of France to India, Mr Thierry Mathou, visited the Himalayan Zoological Park in Bulbuley near Gangtok on November 13.
Upon arrival, Dr Pradeep Kumar, Secretary-cum-PCCF of the Forest and Environment Department, with his team of officials welcomed the French delegation. They provided insights into the ongoing projects and initiatives at the Himalayan Zoological Park and the Forest Department, highlighting key programs such as ‘Mero Ruk Mero Santati’ and ‘My Child from the Wild’.
‘My Child From the Wild’ is an animal adoption program initiated by the Himalayan Zoological Park, aiming to involve people in forest conservation.
The Consul General’s office, in collaboration with CPPR, expressed a strong interest in contributing to Red Panda conservation efforts, which will be facilitated through the ‘My Child From the Wild’ program at the park. It was communicated that the funds raised would be used to enhance the existing breeding center for Red Pandas.
The Center for Red Panda Research (CPPR) aims to enhance awareness regarding red panda conservation efforts and to secure funding for active participation in these initiatives within their natural habitats. The organisation will also serve as the nodal agency in this collaborative endeavour.
The French Ambassador, thereby, concluded his mission visit to Sikkim from November 10 to 13 today, marking a successful engagement with local conservation efforts.
