GANGTOK: The Governor of Sikkim, Om Prakash Mathur, visited the iconic Temi Tea Estate under Namchi district on Saturday.
During his visit, the Governor warmly welcomed by Managing Director Radha Pradhan, ADC Namchi Trisang Tamang, SDPO Ravangla Roshan Rai and official and staff of Temi Tea Estate, a Raj Bhavan release informs.
The Governor took a comprehensive tour of the tea garden and processing unit, keenly observing the different stages of tea production from freshly plucked tea leaves to the fermentation, drying, and final packaging process. He lauded the seamless blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern technology that has earned Temi Tea its distinctive flavor and global recognition.
Assistant Manager Prateek Gautam briefed the Governor on the operations of the factory, including the wide range of premium varieties of tea produced at the Temi Tea Estate.
The Governor also had the opportunity to taste the rich flavours of the different tea blends, appreciating the estate’s dedication to quality and authenticity.
The Governor suggested that Temi Tea should focus on modernising its manufacturing unit by introducing advanced technologies and diversifying its production line, including the commencement of CTC and other varieties alongside the traditional Temi Tea. He further emphasised that the Temi Tea estate should also be promoted as a prime tourism destination, showcasing the rich heritage and unique tea culture of Sikkim.
The Governor also commended the relentless hard work, dedication, and expertise of the Temi Tea team, whose efforts have elevated Temi Tea to global recognition. He extended his best wishes to the team for their continued success and more growth in the years ahead.
In a warm and engaging interaction, the Governor met with the tea garden workers in the lush plantations, acknowledging their hard work and contribution to Sikkim’s tea heritage. He also joined the workers in tea plucking, symbolizing his respect for their tireless efforts and his commitment to supporting local industries.
Subsequently, the Governor visited the picturesque Kuzu Point and Mela Tar within the Temi Tea Estate. His visit was a significant gesture towards promoting tourism in the region, highlighting the Temi Tea gardens as a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and world-class tea production, the release mentions.
