NAMCHI: The eighth day of Creative Hub 2.0 at Jorethang Green Park featured a Mentors’ Talk on Building the Anime and Manga Creator Economy in Sikkim.
The session brought together prominent voices from the creative industry, including Mr Dewarkar Basnet of 24 Learning & AAMA, Mr Rohit Shrestha Founder of Otaku Jatra, Mr Nitesh Rohit Founder of Anime Con, and Mr Anant Co-founder of Studio Kapi.
The speakers shared valuable insights into the expanding anime and manga industry and discussed its potential to evolve into a sustainable creative economy in Sikkim. Emphasis was laid on emerging opportunities for young artists and content creators in this rapidly growing global sector.
During the interaction, it was highlighted that Sikkim’s first Manga and Anime School has been established in Pakyong District, where interested students are already enrolled to pursue professional training in manga and anime creation.
Further, it was informed that Pakyong District Administration has been actively conducting structured training programmes, sharing their experiences and journey in this creative field, and has successfully completed four batches to date. The training programmes focuses on developing both artistic and technical skills required for manga and anime creation. The speakers underlined that manga can be viewed as a long-term creative investment, offering promising career prospects for aspiring youth.
Founder of Otaku Jatra, Mr Rohit Shrestha, informed that manga and cosplay are being introduced in Jorethang for the first time, generating significant interest and enthusiasm among the youth and the creative community.
He further shared that Otaku Jatra enjoys a strong following in Nepal, attracting over 10,000 participants and enthusiasts. It was also mentioned that Otaku Jatra, soon to be launched in India, is Nepal’s largest annual pop culture convention and anime festival, dedicated to anime, manga, gaming, cosplay, and Japanese pop culture.
