GANGTOK: As envisioned by Sikkim’s most beloved and popular leader, Chief Minister cum SKM President Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), 10th August has officially been declared as Aama Samman Diwas, to be observed every year, beginning in 2025, said the SKM in a press statement on Wedneday.
This historic initiative, launched on the eve of 8th Jan Unmukti Diwas is a tribute to the selfless sacrifices, hard work and love of mothers across Sikkim. It reflects the leadership’s unwavering respect and genuine intentions toward real women empowerment, further adding to the legacy of progressive welfare schemes under the SKM government.
On this special day, more than 32,000 Aamas will be felicitated under the Sikkim Aama Sasaktikaran Yojana, with the disbursement of the first installment of financial assistance cheques. Over 4,200 Aamas will benefit under the Sikkim Aama Sahayog Yojana, which provides financial assistance for four LPG gas cylinder refills annually, said the SKM.
A total of 210 Aamas from the grassroots level, selected across various categories from all districts, will be specially invited and honoured at the State-level event.
“These honours are not only symbolic recognitions but also a genuine gesture of appreciation towards the tireless service and contribution of our mothers in various sectors from healthcare and sanitation to education, nutrition and rural development,” said SKM press & publicity wing president Ranjana Pradhan.
The Aama Samman Diwas stands as a shining example of people centric governance and a model of inclusive growth under the leadership of CM Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), which is most unique and noble initiative in the country itself, said Pradhan.
