
GANGTOK: The State Level School Games 2025, organised by Sports and Youth Affairs Department, concluded at Reshithang, Khel Gaon, near Gangtok on Monday.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Minister, Forest & Environment Department, Mines & Geology Department, Science & Technology Department, Mr Pintso Namgyal Lepcha as the Chief Guest along with MLA, Ms Kala Rai as the Guest of Honour.
In his address, Minister, Mr Pintso Namgyal Lepcha, congratulated the Sports and Youth Affairs Department for successfully organising the event and applauded the students for their participation. He emphasised the opportunities provided by the state government as vital platforms for young athletes to showcase their talents. He also reiterated the Chief Minister’s vision of strengthening the sports ecosystem in the state and expressed hope that participants would now aim to compete at national and international levels. Encouraging students to draw inspiration from state sports icons, he urged them to make full use of the opportunities available and highlighted health benefits gained through active involvement in sports.
Speaking on the occassion, Secretary, Sports and Youth Affairs Department,
Ms Yangchen D Tamang, presented a brief overview of the activities conducted during the State Level School Games. She highlighted the objectives of the event, explained that students were selected through a three-level screening process, and outlined the seven disciplines. She also put forth the department’s requirements and expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for his continued support to the sports fraternity.
Following that the results for the State Level School Games for various discipline were declared as follows:
The overall medal tally for the Boys’ Category at the State Level School Games 2025, recorded a total of 25 gold, 23 silver, and 17 bronze medals.
Among the participating districts, Gangtok emerged as the overall champion, securing 12 gold, 5 silver, and 4 bronze medals, with a total of 30 medals and 175 points.
Namchi followed with 6 gold, 5 silver, and 6 bronze medals, totalling 17 medals and 125 points.
Pakyong secured 1 gold, 7 silver, and 4 bronze medals, earning 12 medals and 94 points.
Gyalshing won 2 gold, 6 silver, and 2 bronze medals, totalling 10 medals and 72 points.
Mangan secured 2 gold, 2 silver, and 4 bronze medals for a total of 8 medals and 55 points.
Soreng earned 1 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze, receiving 3 medals and 22 points.
Gangtok was declared the Overall Champion District (Boys) of the State Level School Games 2025.
The overall medal tally for the Girls’ Category at the State Level School Games 2025, recorded a total of 23 gold, 22 silver, and 30 bronze medals.
Gangtok emerged as the leading district, securing 10 gold, 8 silver, and 4 bronze medals, with a total of 22 medals and 176 points.
Namchi followed closely with 11 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze medals, totalling 21 medals and 170 points.
Gyalshing earned 2 gold, 5 silver, and 10 bronze medals, making up 17 medals and 105 points.
Pakyong secured 1 gold and 7 bronze medals, achieving 8 medals and 45 points.
Soreng won 1 gold, 6 silver and 6 bronze medals, totalling 13 medals and 82 points.
Mangan secured 2 silver, 1 bronze medals with 3 medals and 19 points.
With its highest overall score, Gangtok was declared the Overall Champion District (Girls) of the State Level School Games 2025.

The Chief Guest formally declared the State Level School Games 2025 closed.
Also in attendance were Zilla Panchayat, Panchayat Members; Advisor, Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Mr Bikram Pradhan, Chairman, State Sports Development Board, Mr Rinzing Wangyal Chopel, Chairman, State Youth Development Board, Mr Basant Yonzon, Secretary, Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Ms Yangchen D. Tamang, President, Sikkim Olympic Association, Mr Kuber Bhandari along with other dignitaries.
The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Additional Director, Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Mr R B Biswakarma.
