PAKYONG: The 3rd State Ranking Junior U-19 & 1st Majhitar Open Badminton Championship 2025, organised by the Badminton Club of Majhitar under the aegis of the Badminton Association of Sikkim (BAS), concluded at the auditorium of Advanced Technical Training Centre, Bardang, on March 16.
Krishna Rai, former MLA Namchi Singithang, honoured the occasion as the chief guest, with Raj Kumari Thapa, Deputy Speaker of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, serving as the special guest.
To encourage the hard work and dedication of the players, Krishna Rai presented badminton rackets to the champions further.
LB Das, MLA West Pendam, served as the chief patron and played a crucial role in fostering and promoting badminton at the grassroots level.
The tournament witnessed the participation of 300 players, including several national-level athletes from within the state and neighbouring regions.
Winners and runners-up in each category were honoured with trophies, certificates, and cash prizes.
The event effectively promoted badminton at the grassroots level, providing a platform for young athletes to refine their skills and aspire to compete at higher levels. It also contributed significantly to strengthening the sports culture in the region, inspiring youth to engage actively in badminton.
The Badminton Club of Majhitar expressed profound gratitude to all players, coaches, officials, volunteers, and sponsors for their invaluable contributions to the tournament’s success. With substantial support received, the organisers have assured to present an even more expansive and competitive edition in the upcoming year.
Other distinguished attendees included local Councillors, Panchayats, officials from the Badminton Association of Sikkim (BAS), Vice Principal of ATTC Bardang, along with local dignitaries and sports enthusiasts.
