SILIGURI: Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay laid the foundation stone for the Sikkim Bus Terminus, Health Care Centre, and Guest House Building at the SNT Complex, Siliguri on March 5.
This establishment is expected to bring long-term benefits to travelers, government employees, and patients from Sikkim, reinforcing the state’s commitment to progress and welfare, further enhancing public services, transportation, and healthcare facilities for the people of Sikkim.
During his address, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay emphasized the historical significance of this development for Sikkim. He highlighted that the new complex will house the SNT Office along with various other government offices, streamlining administrative functions under one roof. Additionally, the Sikkim Health Care Centre will provide vital medical support, especially catering to BPL (Below Poverty Line) patients from Sikkim who travel for treatment. This initiative aims to ease the challenges faced by economically weaker sections while accessing healthcare outside the state.
The Chief Minister extended his heartiest congratulations to the people of Sikkim on this progressive step, assuring them that the government remains committed to infrastructure expansion and citizen welfare.
Recognizing the collaborative effort behind this project, the Chief Minister expressed his deep gratitude to the Government of West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and Siliguri Municipal Corporation Mayor Mr Gautam Deb for their support in facilitating this crucial infrastructure development. Their cooperation has played a pivotal role in ensuring that Sikkimese citizens receive enhanced services and facilities in Siliguri, he mentioned.
The event commenced with a Bhumi Puja, a traditional ritual seeking divine blessings for the successful construction of the complex. As part of the ceremony, the Building & Housing Department presented the official building plan to the Chief Minister, outlining the scope and scale of the ambitious project.
The newly planned Office Complex will be a five-story structure, while the Health Care Centre will be ten storeys high, ensuring ample space for various government offices and medical services.
In attendance were Speaker MN Sherpa, Ministers, MLAs, Advisors, Chairpersons, HODs, dignitaries, staff of SNT and other line departments, guests and local gentry.
