GANGTOK: Tenzing D Denzongpa, District Collector Gyalshing district embarked on his first official visit to Yuksom Subdivision on February 12, where he engaged with government officials and Panchayati Raj representatives to assess the administrative and developmental landscape of the region.
During his maiden visit, Denzongpa convened a meeting at the Yuksom Dubdi Gram Panchayat Unit office, where he interacted with officials and grassroots functionaries, gaining first and insights into the local governance framework. He was accompanied by Ds Limboo Zilla Adhyaksha Gyalshing, Chandan Singh Subba Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Yuksom, Samber Man Limboo Block Development Officer (BDO), officials from various government departments, representatives of the concerned Gram Panchayat, and other Panchayati Raj functionaries.
The District Collector conducted a meticulous review of critical administrative areas, including manpower allocation and garbage disposal management, emphasizing the need for efficiency and proactive governance. He urged all subdivision-level officials and Panchayati Raj functionaries to remain steadfast in their commitment to public service, stressing that complacency should have no place in public service operations.
Assuring unwavering support from the Office of the District Collector, he reiterated his dedication to facilitating the growth and progress of the subdivision.
As a mark of appreciation for his visit, Denzongpa was presented with a thoughtfully curated organic gift basket by the members of the Gram Panchayat Unit.
Continuing his tour, the DC paid a visit to Karthok Lake, a site of immense cultural and spiritual significance. There, he offered his prayers and reverence at the sacred lake and the adjoining Lakhang prayer room, underscoring the importance of preserving the spiritual heritage of the region.
Denzongpa also inspected the Yuksom Health and Wellness Centre, where he conducted a comprehensive assessment of the facility’s infrastructure, scrutinizing the availability and functionality of essential medical equipment.
In an inspiring and hands-on gesture, he availed himself of the dental medical services offered at the Health and Wellness Centre, demonstrating his confidence in the expertise of the healthcare professionals.
His participation as a patient served as a powerful endorsement of the medical services provided and reinforced the significance of utilizing local healthcare facilities.
By personally engaging with the health centre, he set an exemplary precedent, encouraging the community to place their trust in public healthcare.
His appreciation of the dedication and proficiency of the medical staff further boosted their morale, affirming their efforts in delivering quality healthcare to the people of Yuksam.
Thereafter, DC visited the Resource and Recovery Centre (RRC) at Gerethang Gram Panchayat Unit, where he was warmly received by the in-charge of the facility and its dedicated members.
The RRC team provided him with a detailed briefing on the intricate process of waste recovery and recycling, elaborating on the various categories of waste collected, repurposed, or sent for proper disposal.
Impressed by the innovative and sustainable efforts undertaken by the members, Denzongpa expressed his deep appreciation for their commitment to waste management. Encouraging further excellence, he advised them to adopt and integrate best practices from other well-functioning Resource and Recovery Centres to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Accompanied by Chandan Singh Subba Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Yuksom, Geeta Gurung Block Development Officer (BDO) Chongrang, CLC President Nandu Gurung, concerned Panchayats and others, the District Collector proceeded to Chongrang Gram Panchayat Unit to inspect ongoing infrastructure development projects.
During his visit, he closely examined the SC Bhawan building and its adjoining complex, which had been left in a severely dilapidated state due to years of neglect and lack of maintenance. Noting the extent of deterioration, Denzongpa directed officials and local panchayat representatives to collaborate in compiling a comprehensive report on the building’s current condition. He also highlighted the issue of repeated trespassing by miscreants, emphasizing the urgency of safeguarding the structure.
To ensure optimal utilization of the infrastructure, the DC recommended that the building be renovated and repurposed as a Gram Prashasan Kendra-cum-SC Bhawan, as envisioned by the local community. Alternatively, he suggested that it could be used for any other meaningful public service initiative that would benefit the residents.
Following the inspection, Denzongpa and his team proceeded towards the Kongri Labdang Gram Panchayat Unit, advancing their efforts to gain deeper insights into the region’s developmental landscape.
