PAKYONG: Governor Om Prakash Mathur on Friday concluded a two-day local tour in Pakyong District, where he engaged with local communities and emphasised the importance of grassroots development.
On the second day of his tour, the Governor initiated discussions with Panchayat Presidents and members from Rhenock and Aritar GPU, focusing on the effective implementation of centrally sponsored schemes at the grassroots level.
During these discussions, he sought to understand the nuances of their work while valuing the pivotal role played by local governance in uplifting the community.
A notable point of pride during the discussions was the emphasised participation of women in local governance, with many Panchayats being led by capable female leaders.
The Governor’s next stop was at the PM SHRI Government Senior Secondary School in Rhenock, wherein he delivered an address that resonated with nostalgia and gratitude, acknowledging the institution’s long-standing history within Sikkim. The school has significantly impacted countless students and has served as a vital beacon of knowledge and community spirit.
In his address, the Governor commended the remarkable dedication displayed by the education department, faculty, and all stakeholders who have contributed to the preservation and success of the school. He articulated that the school stands not only as a pillar of pride for Sikkim but also for the nation, representing the collective effort to nurture future generations.
Furthermore, the Governor laid particular emphasis on the importance of education as the foundation for progress and success in life. He encouraged the students to aspire high, specifically motivating them to consider careers in public service as civil servants. He resonated with the belief that hard work and dedication to education pave the way for extraordinary futures, something that is particularly essential when preparing for competitive exams like the UPSC. He reinforced India’s growing influence in the global education arena, referencing initiatives like Yoga Day that showcase the nation’s rich cultural and intellectual heritage.
As he shared his vision for the future, he expressed confidence that this educational institution would continue to be a fertile ground for nurturing talented individuals, stating, “We must uphold our commitment to produce the best leaders in the world.” His words served as an inspiration for both students and educators, instilling a sense of pride and purpose in the pursuit of knowledge and excellence.
Puran Gurung, Minister for Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, and Fisheries Development, welcomed the Governor’s visit to Pakyong District. He expressed heartfelt gratitude for the Governor’s dedication to connecting with local residents and understanding the community’s needs at a grassroots level. Minister Gurung urged students to diligently pursue their studies, underscoring that their educational journey will be instrumental in shaping their futures.
As the tour progressed, the Governor visited the Biswa Vinayak Mandir at Rhenock, where he offered prayers and sought the blessings of deities at this revered temple.
The Governor’s tour concluded with a visit to the Pakyong Greenfield Airport. Here, he addressed pressing concerns regarding the airport’s operational challenges, which have severely impacted the tourism sector in Sikkim—a vital component of the local economy.
The Governor engaged in dialogue with Pamin Lepcha, MLA Gnathang Machong, DC Pakyong and airport officials, who articulated their apprehensions regarding the obstacles faced in relation to the airport’s operations.
After gathering perspectives, the Governor reaffirmed his dedication to resolving these issues. He underscored that access to the airport is not merely a convenience but a crucial necessity for economic development and sustained community connectivity. He advocated for a unified effort to enhance the infrastructure that would facilitate improved access to the airport.
In his concluding remarks, the Governor promoted collaboration among governmental entities and community members. He highlighted the significance of collective efforts to devise practical solutions aimed at enhancing the airport’s accessibility. This collaborative strategy seeks not only to improve links but also to invigorate the local economy, positioning Greenfield Airport as a pivotal gateway for commerce and tourism.
