GANGTOK, July 30: As he completes one year in office on July 31, the Governor of Sikkim, Om Prakash Mathur, released a heartfelt message reflecting on his journey and reaffirming his dedication to the people and progress of the state.
In his address, Governor Mathur expressed deep gratitude to the people of Sikkim for their warmth, support, and hospitality during his first year as the 18th Governor of the state. “It feels as if it was only yesterday that I took the oath of office at Raj Bhavan as the 18th Governor of Sikkim, yet the journey of the past year has been deeply enriching and transformative,” he said.
Over the course of the year, the Governor travelled extensively across the state -from the remote Donkela Pass to the bustling Maghey Mela in Jorethang – engaging with citizens and gaining firsthand insight into their aspirations and concerns.
He highlighted his participation in several landmark events, including the Golden Jubilee celebration of Sikkim’s statehood, the flagging off of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra from Nathula, and the inauguration of Prerna Sthal at Bardang, a memorial dedicated to the martyrs of the October 2023 flash floods.
One of the standout achievements during his tenure was the electrification of Dichu village near the Doklam forward post. “This initiative reaffirmed our commitment to inclusive development,” he said, also noting his visits to border villages under the Vibrant Villages Programme, part of the Prime Minister’s vision for empowering frontier communities.
Governor Mathur commended the significant role of women in Sikkim’s development, describing them as “torchbearers of women’s empowerment in the country.” He also lauded the state’s exemplary civic discipline, particularly in traffic behavior and cleanliness, calling Sikkim a “shining benchmark” in environmental and civic responsibility.
The Governor expressed his appreciation for the leadership of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and his Cabinet, noting their tireless efforts toward the state’s welfare.
“The Sikkimese people are among the most forward-thinking citizens in the nation. Their immense potential will undoubtedly play a key role in realising the dream of Viksit Bharat @2047. Together, I am confident that we will elevate Sikkim into a model state for the entire country—excelling in governance, innovation, sustainability, and human development.”
“As I reflect on this year of service, I remain inspired by the unity in diversity that defines Sikkim. I look forward to continuing this journey with renewed commitment and dedication,” said the Governor.
