Second Coordination Meeting for Super Car Rally Held in Gangtok

GANGTOK: The second coordination meeting for the upcoming Super Car Rally supported by the Black Cat Division under the aegis of the Trishakti Corps of the Indian Army and the Government of Sikkim was convened today at the conference hall of the District Administrative Centre (DAC), Gangtok.
The meeting was co-chaired by Chairperson SIMFED Mr Tenzing Dorjee Bhutia, Chairperson IPRD Mr Ashit Rai, District Collector Gangtok Mr Tushar G Nikhare, Additional Political Secretary Gangtok Mr Tshering Wangchuk Lepcha, along with senior representatives of the Indian Army.
The rally will be led by the Mumbai based Super Car Route Group and will feature high performance automobiles including Lamborghinis, Porsches, and other international luxury supercars. A key highlight of the initiative is that it is entirely self funded, with participating vehicle owners covering all accommodation, travel, fuel, logistics and operational expenses.
Support from the Army aligns with the objectives of Bharat Ranbhoomi Darshan, a national programme developed by the Ministry of Defence in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, aimed at providing citizens access to India’s historic battlefields and military heritage locations. One of the prominent highlights of the rally route will be the transit through Cho La Pass, located at 5,420 metres (17,782 ft.), recognised both for its strategic role during the 1967 Indo-China skirmishes and for its picturesque alpine terrain.
Scheduled from 11th to 15th December 2025, the rally will be flagged off from Sukna, West Bengal, and traverse through Siliguri, Gangtok, Cho La, Nathu La, and the Gnathang–Zuluk stretch, offering participants a curated experience of Sikkim’s high-altitude landscapes, border tourism corridors and mountain road infrastructure.
During the meeting, discussions were held on interagency coordination, movement clearances, route safety measures, traffic regulation, emergency response planning and communication systems. The District Collector took cognisance of the preparations underway and termed the rally as a significant opportunity for Sikkim, noting that the event would generate positive global publicity and reinforce the State’s image as a safe and welcoming destination. He also shared several inputs to support the smooth and successful organisation of the event.
Further, Chairperson IPRD Mr Ashit Rai and Chairperson SIMFED Mr Tenzing Dorjee Bhutia shared their observations and recommendations to strengthen cross-agency coordination and ensure operational readiness.
As part of the proceedings, the official poster of the Super Car Rally was launched by the dignitaries, marking the commencement of public outreach and promotional activities for the event.
The Additional Political Secretary shared details of the activities planned during the programme on behalf of the State, adding that the successful conduct of the rally will serve as a flagship example of civil–military engagement, paving the way for further cooperation in the future.
In his concluding remarks, OSD to the Chief Minister, Mr Rewaj Chettri thanked all participating agencies and expressed confidence that the rally would enhance Sikkim’s tourism profile by showcasing its scenic and strategic landscapes. He stated that the event will not only generate positive national and international visibility but will also highlight the natural beauty of Sikkim, reinforcing its position as a unique and aspirational destination.
The meeting was attended by SP Gangtok Mr Mahendra Subba, senior officials from the Government of Sikkim and representatives from the Trishakti Corps, NHIDCL, SAMSA, OMAS(Organization of Musicians and Artists of Sikkim), Car Culture Sikkim, Dirty Angels Motorcycle Club, Brothers, and other stakeholder organisations.
