GANGTOK: Sikkim Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba on September 4 attended a significant meeting of the Parliamentary Estimates Committee held at the Parliament House Annexe Extension Building, New Delhi.
The meeting, chaired by Estimates Committee Sanjay Jaiswal, focused on discussions related to various schemes of the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, a press release from his office informs.
During the meeting, the Sikkim MP emphasized the crucial importance of renewable energy, particularly in light of the increasingly visible adverse effects of climate change. He remarked, “We are the first generation to feel the effects of climate change, and the last generation who can do something about it.”
This sentiment calls for the attention to the urgent need for sustainable energy solutions and highlights the Government of India’s commitment to expanding renewable energy sources through robust policy frameworks.
Sikkim has long been a pioneer in climate action, with clean energy and environmental sustainability forming core components of the state’s development agenda.
As a steadfast advocate for renewable energy, Indra Hang has continuously championed initiatives aimed at mitigating the adverse effects of climate change. His dedication to promoting clean energy aligns with Sikkim’s vision of becoming a green and sustainable State under the leadership of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay, the release mentions.

He also highlighted the State Budget 2024-25 speech of the Chief Minister where the Sikkim Government has committed to significantly contribute to the ‘environment sustainability’ pillar of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’, the release adds.
