NAMCHI: To commemorate the 50 Years of Sikkim’s Statehood, Temi Tea Estate organised a celebratory programme at its premises on Sunday.
Tourism & Civil Aviation and Commerce & Industries minister Tshering T Bhutia graced the occasion as the chief guest. The programme had the presence of Zilla Adhakshya Namchi Zilla Adhakshya Anjeeta Rajalim as the guest of honour.
At the onset, the minister inaugurated the ‘Kuzu’ replica, the official mascot commemorating 50 years of Statehood, and unveiled a plaque depicting the history of the Temi Tea Estate, both were installed at Section No 1 of the estate. Additionally, the Minister launched the estate’s special second flush of Temi Tea.
Addressing the gathering, the minister spoke about the historical significance of Temi Tea, established in 1969 during the reign of the Chogyal, and acknowledged its role as a source of pride and prosperity for the region. He emphasized that the ongoing expansion of the Temi Tea Estate and its operations will create new opportunities for local employment and contribute to fostering self-reliance among the people by enabling sustainable livelihoods through the estate.
Temi Tea chairman RK Waling, emphasized the bright prospects of Temi Tea, underlining its pivotal role in advancing sustainable agriculture, promoting eco-tourism, and generating employment opportunities in the region. He expressed confidence that the newly launched products, coupled with innovative marketing strategies, would substantially enhance the visibility, market reach, and overall brand value of Temi Tea.
Temi Tea managing director Radha Pradhan provided a detailed overview of the operational and production status of the estate. She underscored the significance of the ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign, highlighting the promotion of local enterprises as a cornerstone for achieving sustainable development in the region.
