GANGTOK: Sikkim Tourism & Industries minister Tshering T. Bhutia met Gautam Gambhir, the newly appointed head coach of the Indian Men’s Cricket Team, during his official visit to Delhi on September 5. The two discussed the potential of sports as a means for national development, with a focus on promoting sports and tourism in Sikkim, informs a press release.
Minister Bhutia emphasized the untapped potential of Sikkim as a hub for sporting activities, citing its natural beauty and conducive environment for various sports.
“Sikkim has the potential to become a premier destination for sports tourism and related activities,” Bhutia stated, expressing his hope for future collaborations to promote sports in the state. He also highlighted the State’s potential for adventure and sports tourism.
After serving as a Lok Sabha MP since June 2019, Gambhir announced his retirement from politics in early 2024. On July 9, 2024, he was appointed the new head coach of the Indian Men’s Cricket Team, succeeding Rahul Dravid.
During their discussion, Gambhir expressed his commitment to supporting the development of sports across the country.
Minister Bhutia is currently in Delhi for a Union Minister’s Conference on Industries, scheduled for September 5, where he is expected to discuss avenues for industrial growth and investment in Sikkim.
