GANGTOK: As part of its initiatives to promote national integration and youth development, the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Govt. of India, has launched the Border Area Youth Exchange Programme. This programme, scheduled from February 26 to March 2, 2025, has brought together 27 participants from five Indian states – Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, and West Bengal to Sikkim, for a cultural and educational exchange.
The inauguration ceremony took place at Gangtok on February 27. Tenzing Norbu Lamtha, MLA, Syari Constituency, graced the event as the chief guest. Other dignitaries present included Bobita Chettri, AD NSS Cell, Bhanu Bhakta Chapagai, AD Sports, and Arjun Pradhan, NSS PO.
The event began with the lighting of the lamp and a floral tribute to Swami Vivekananda Ji. Sourav Barman, DYO Gangtok, briefed the participants on the program’s objectives and activities.
A cultural exchange program followed, where Volunteers of MY Bharat from Sikkim and the visiting states showcased their traditional attire and cultural performances. This exchange aimed to promote cross-cultural understanding and appreciation.
In his address, Tenzing Norbu Lamtha highlighted the challenges faced by India’s brave Army Personnel in the borders of Sikkim. He applauded Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan’s initiatives in promoting national integration through youth exchange programs.
The chief guest also explained the concept of Mera Yuva Bharat, emphasizing the need for youths to come together for Viksit Bharat. He advised the participants to follow Swami Vivekananda’s ideals and work towards building a stronger India.
The second half of the program featured academic sessions conducted by National Youth Awardee Shri Mohan Dhakal, NSS PO Arjun Pradhan, and DYO Sourav Barman.
This Border Area Youth Exchange Programme aims to foster greater understanding and friendship among youths from different states, promoting national integration and development.
