GANGTOK: A review meeting regarding the Golden Jubilee, 50 Years of Statehood, took place at the conference hall at Tashiling Secretariat on Monday morning. The meeting was chaired by Chief Secretary R Telang in the presence of various HODs and senior officials.
The objective of the meeting was to discuss plans, logistics and key arrangements for the State Day celebrations on May 16, 2025, including events leading up to the main day.
Departments showcased their work and progress through presentations during the meeting’s second half, marking their contributions to the 50 Years of Statehood milestone. The presentations highlighted the concerned department’s advancements, breaking down work completion and ongoing percentages.
The Gangtok Municipal Corporation presented updates on the Ridge Park’s development, including:
- Glass House installation
- Nehru bust installation
- Sidewalk and footpath renovations
- Wheelchair accessibility enhancements
The Urban Development Department briefed on the renovation and facelifting projects in the capital, including: - Installation of coloured and national flags at various locations
- Other development initiatives such as repainting walls, department buildings, etc.
The Tourism & Civil Aviation Department highlighted its various initiatives on: - Heritage Walk in three districts
- District-wide activities (angling, bike rallies, cycling etc)
- Street Food Fest
- LED screen installation at the NH10
- QR code-based tourist destination information system (linked with Google Maps) featuring:
- Nearby tourist spots
- Police stations
- Hospitals
- Artisan shops
The Power Department highlighted on:
- Ornamental lighting areas
- Pole installations at the NH10
- Installation of facade lighting areas at eight sites
The Department of InformationTechnology, in collaboration with the Unnati Foundation and Bot Lab Dynamics, presented on the upcoming State Day drone show, covering: - Safety measures
- Viewing angle adjustments
- Image sequencing
- Pre-event activities involving students and media engagement
The Information and Public Relations Department highlighted its progress to the contributions to the 50 Years of Statehood celebrations, on: - Release of “Sikkim at 50: A Special State’s Unique Journey” coffee table book

The Chief Secretary offered valuable guidance and insights throughout the presentations, advising department heads effectively. He requested the HODs to create event brochures and pamphlets for public awareness stating that it is imminent to “create a buzz of excitement.” He also stated that the brochures will facilitate the Chief Minister’s review before State Day.
Additionally, the Chief Secretary emphasised the importance of raising public awareness through social media for the events. In his concluding remarks, the Chief Secretary recapped the meeting’s discussions, outlining the remaining agenda and task items and reminding Department Heads of the upcoming deadlines.
