GANGTOK: Sikkim Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba attended the meeting of the Standing Committee on Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs on September 19 held under the chairpersonship of Smt. Kanimozhi Karunanidhi.
During the meeting, the Ministry informed that the Mera Ration mobile application is currently available in 13 Indian languages.
Subba urged that the application be expanded to cover all 22 recognised languages of the Eighth Schedule, with special emphasis on the inclusion of Nepali, to ensure accessibility for all citizens, particularly for beneficiaries in his home state of Sikkim.
He further highlighted the absence of a dedicated Regional Office of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) in Sikkim. At present, Sikkim falls under the jurisdiction of the FCI Regional Office in West Bengal, which creates administrative challenges in ensuring effective coordination.
Subba requested the chairperson to intervene for the establishment of a Regional Office in Sikkim to strengthen food security and streamline the public distribution system in the state.
The committee also held discussions on consumer welfare measures, food distribution reforms, and proposed recommendations to the Ministry aimed at enhancing transparency, efficiency, and service delivery, a press release informs.
