Sikkim Police Conducts Building Bonds Outreach Programme in Soreng District

Soreng, October 17 (IPR): The Sikkim Police conducted an outreach programme under the initiative “Building Bonds” at the auditorium hall of PM SHRI Government Senior Secondary School Soreng, Soreng district.
“Building Bonds” is an initiative, aimed at strengthening the relationship between the police force and the citizens of Sikkim in a collaborative effort to promote trust, safety, and mutual understanding.
The programme had the special presence of Director General of Police (DGP), Sikkim, Akshay Sachdeva, IPS. The DGP was accompanied by Superintendent of Police (Soreng) Nahkul Pradhan, ADC-II (Soreng) Santosh Kumar Allay, Additional SP (Soreng) Parsu Ram Sharma, SDPO (Soreng) Chewang Dorjee Bhutia, Principal (PM SHRI GSS) Dr. PB Chettri and SHOs.
Speaking at the programme, DGP Akshay Sachdeva outlined the core objective of the initiative, emphasising the importance of building trust and mutual understanding between the police and the community. He then stressed that cooperation and open communication are essential for maintaining law and order. During his speech, the DGP covered various critical topics concerning law and order. To make the session interactive and impactful, the programme featured a series of role play activities volunteered by attendees. The activities were designed to highlight the importance of ethical conduct and mutual accountability, both on the part of the public and the police.
The DGP also touched upon key issues related to traffic safety, urging citizens to follow road rules diligently to prevent accidents and ensure public safety. He explained the legal consequences of traffic violations and emphasised that responsible behaviour on roads is a shared responsibility.
A significant part of the address focused on the rising threat of cybercrime. The DGP educated the audience on various forms of online threats such as digital arrests, voice cloning, sextortion and online financial frauds. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately. The official cybercrime helpline number 1930 was also shared for the public to use in emergencies.
A special session was also conducted with officers and personnel from various units including the District Police, Wireless and Telecommunication (WT), Fire & Emergency Services and the Special Branch. During the session, the DGP emphasised the physical fitness forms and effective policing. He mandated daily physical training (PT) for all personnel, citing that fitness enhances alertness, readiness and operational efficiency.
Highlighting the importance of discipline, the DGP reiterated that respectful behavior toward senior officers and the correct execution of salutes are fundamental aspects of police conduct that must be upheld at all times. The DGP also addressed the recently introduced new criminal laws, stressing the importance for all officers to remain updated and well-versed with the new legal provisions. He stated that legal awareness is crucial for maintaining the credibility and competence of the police force.
The programme commenced with the welcome address delivered by SP (Soreng) Nahkul Pradhan, wherein he highlighted the objectives of the “Building Bonds” outreach programme. And, the programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by ASP (Soreng) Parsu Ram Sharma.
Earlier, the Sikkim Police extended a ceremonial guard of honour to the Director General of Police (DGP), Sikkim, Akshay Sachdeva, upon his arrival.
The programme was also attended by Zilla Panchayats, Panchayats, APS (Soreng) Eras Lucksom, Ex-Servicemen, police personnel, teachers, stakeholders and students from various colleges and schools.
