GANGTOK: Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from Sikkim, Indra Hang Subba called on Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Railways, at his office in Rail Bhavan, New Delhi on Friday.
During the meeting, Subba expressed heartfelt gratitude for the sanction of the Final Location Survey (FLS) for the proposed Melli–Dentam railway line in the state of Sikkim.
He stated that the approval of the FLS reflects the Government of India’s sustained commitment to improving connectivity and promoting inclusive development in the North Eastern region, particularly in remote and strategically important parts of Sikkim.
The Lok Sabha MP also conveyed his appreciation for the swift progress of the Sevoke–Rangpo railway line and the recent approval of the Rangpo–Gangtok rail link. He termed these as “historic milestones” that are set to transform Sikkim’s transportation infrastructure and bring the state closer to the rest of the country through reliable and efficient rail connectivity.
During the interaction, Subba urged the Union Minister to expedite further processes related to the Melli–Dentam railway project, including the timely completion of the Final Location Survey and preparation and approval of the Detailed Project Report (DPR). He emphasized that early execution of this critical project will benefit the people of West Sikkim and adjoining areas by improving access, promoting tourism, and strengthening national security.
Subba reiterated his commitment to supporting infrastructure development in Sikkim and thanked the Railway Minister for his visionary leadership and continuous support for the state’s growth, a press release informs.
