
GANGTOK: Major General A.P.S. Chahal, Additional Director General, NCC (Sikkim & West Bengal), along with other officials, called on the Governor of Sikkim, Om Prakash Mathur at Raj Bhavan on Friday.
During the meeting, the Major General informed the Governor that a new NCC Group Headquarters is being established in Sikkim. Until now, the Headquarters for Sikkim and West Bengal functioned jointly however, with this independent set-up, NCC activities in the State will be further strengthened, nurturing the spirit of nationalism and patriotism among the youth.
They also discussed the formation of a new battalion in Sikkim, which will create more opportunities for the youth to actively participate and serve the nation through the NCC, a Raj Bhavan release informs.
The Governor appreciated the contribution of NCC cadets from Sikkim, noting that they have brought laurels to the State through their excellent performance at the national level. He highlighted that NCC plays a vital role in instilling discipline, leadership, and patriotism among young people.
The Governor further recalled the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to increase the strength of NCC cadets across the country to 25 lakh, enabling more youth to join this esteemed organization and contribute to nation-building. In this context, he encouraged efforts to expand the enrolment of NCC cadets in schools and colleges of Sikkim. He extended his best wishes to all cadets and urged them to continue their dedicated service in shaping the future of the nation through the NCC, the release mentions.
