GANGTOK: Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba on Tuesday chaired the informal sitting of the Parliamentary Committee on Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution in Puducherry, in his capacity as convenor of the committee, on behalf of the chairperson, K. Kanimozhi.
During the meeting, the committee interacted with representatives of the Department of Consumer Affairs, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, oil marketing companies, and the government of Puducherry to review measures for ensuring the availability of essential commodities, with specific reference to petroleum and petroleum products.
Detailed discussions were held on supply mechanisms, distribution systems, and coordination among stakeholders to ensure uninterrupted availability of petroleum and petroleum products, particularly during periods of demand fluctuation or emergencies, a press release informs.
Subba facilitated constructive deliberations and emphasized the importance of effective inter-departmental coordination and proactive planning to safeguard consumer interests.
The committee appreciated the inputs shared by all stakeholders and underscored the need for continued cooperation between the Union government, the government of Puducherry, and oil marketing companies to strengthen supply resilience and enhance consumer welfare, the release adds.
