GANGTOK: Indra Hang Subba, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from Sikkim, has submitted a request letter on behalf of the Speaker of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, M.N. Sherpa, to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Om Birla, regarding the conduct of a Students’ Assembly at the Lok Sabha premises, New Delhi.

This initiative aligns with the vision and continuous efforts of the Chief Minister of Sikkim, Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), for the all-round development of students and the creation of meaningful opportunities for their growth and exposure.
The concept of a Students’ Assembly was first introduced in 2023 by the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, offering students a unique platform to actively participate in and experience the legislative process in a simulated State Assembly setting. Following the success of the inaugural edition, the upcoming Students’ Assembly is now being planned at the national level, proposed to be hosted at the Lok Sabha premises in New Delhi, in collaboration with the Sikkim Students’ Union, New Delhi.
The proposed dates for the program are November 8–10, 2025, the release mentions.
This program aims to provide students with a practical, hands-on understanding of parliamentary procedures and policymaking mechanisms at the national level. It is envisioned as a powerful tool to empower students by enhancing their political awareness, nurturing leadership skills, and instilling a sense of civic responsibility. By participating in a forum that mirrors real legislative proceedings, students are encouraged to voice their ideas, engage in critical thinking, and take their first steps toward becoming informed and active citizens of the nation, the release states.
