GANGTOK: The second session of the concluding day of the International Youth Conclave for Tourism Development at Yangang, South Sikkim on April 14 was marked by enthusiastic participation, meaningful deliberations, and cultural exchanges.

The chief guest for the occasion was Education Minister Raju Basnet, who graced the event alongside SLA Deputy Speaker Raj Kumari Thapa, MLAs Satish Chandra Rai and Tenzing N Lamtha, Chief Minister’s political secretary Bikash Basnet, dignitaries and delegates from 17 states, 4 Union Territories, and 3 countries, as well as students, SHGs, NGOs and other stakeholders.
Bikash Basnet, chief coordinator of the conclave and Political Secretary to the CM, expressed that the event has been a resounding success and will have a lasting impact on promoting tourism in Yangang. He emphasized the significance of knowledge exchange, cultural integration, and the collective efforts of all stakeholders that made this initiative impactful, a press release informs.

Participants from various states and countries shared their reflections, expressing deep appreciation for the warm hospitality of the Sikkimese people, and commending the Government’s commitment under the leadership of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) to youth empowerment and sustainable tourism.
Deputy Speaker & Chief Patron of YTDC, Raj Kumari Thapa extended heartfelt gratitude to the Chief Minister for his guidance and vision in aligning the event with the 50th year of Sikkim’s Statehood. She highlighted the various sessions held, including mental health awareness programmes, education sessions by Sikkim University and “Sikkim Inspires”, panel discussions and the active participation of the local entrepreneur community. She also acknowledged the role of stall owners, artisans and youth who contributed immensely to the event.

In his address, Minister Raju Basnet spoke on the visible transformation of Yangang under the present leadership. He noted that long-pending demands such as the operationalization of Sikkim University Campus and the construction of the Skywalk at Bhaleydhunga are now becoming realities. He encouraged the youth to pursue tourism entrepreneurship as a sustainable livelihood that benefits generations, especially in a region blessed with natural beauty and cultural richness.
The day also witnessed a token of appreciation being presented to all line departments in recognition of their unwavering support, cooperation, and coordination throughout the conclave.
The three-day event concluded with a grand cultural exchange program, featuring diverse state delegations, local cultural performances, traditional cuisines, handicrafts and handloom stalls, educational outreach by Sikkim University and Sikkim Inspires, as well as awareness sessions on mental health by the Education Department.
