GANGTOK: Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay inaugurated the 300 ft Indreni Bailey Suspension Bridge at Singtam on August 12.
The inauguration ceremony saw the presence of Krishna Rai, Mingma Norbu Sherpa, Speaker, Sikkim Legislative Assembly, Nar Bahadur Dahal, Minister for Roads & Bridges department-cum Area MLA Khamdong- Singtam, Bhoj Raj Rai, Minister for Urban Development and Food & Civil Supplies departments, Bedu Singh Panth, Area MLA, Temi-Namphing, chief secretary VB Pathak, heads of departments, Major Ajay Kumar, 87 RCC, BRO, commander Sunil Kumar 764, BRTF, DC Gangtok, SSP, Gangtok, GREF Officials, BDO, Singtam, MEO, Singtam, dignitaries, government officials, engineers, and residents of Singtam.
The event began with the offering of puja and then with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed
by a walkthrough by the Chief Minister and officials, who inspected the bridge’s features and
interacted with the representatives present.
Reconstructed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), the Indreni Bridge symbolises the
resilience and collaborative spirit of Sikkim. It is designed to strengthen the connectivity
between East and South Sikkim, facilitating smoother transportation and enhancing the
region’s economic potential.
It is important to note that the original Indreni Bridge was washed away during the flash flood on October 4th, 2023. The newly constructed bridge is now open to the public, restoring a lifeline to the region and paving the way for renewed growth and development.
The successful completion of the Indreni Bridge project stands as a testament to engineering prowess, teamwork, and relentless pursuit of progress.
As Sikkim continues to rebuild and grow, this bridge will undoubtedly serve as a vital link, contributing significantly to the State’s future prosperity.
