GANGTOK: The Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Sikkim is organizing the Run for Unity on the occasion of the “Rashtriya Ekta Diwas” on 31st October 2024 commemorating 149th Birth Anniversary of Sadar Vallavbhai Patel, the architect of national integration of independent India.
The Run for Unity will be organized in two categories as under:
i) 21 km Half Marathon for Men and Women (open)
ii) 3 km Run for Unity for School children (Under -16 boys & girls)
The State Government has decided to award attractive prize money for both the categories and the cash prizes for both the categories are being sponsored by the State Bank of Sikkim, Gangtok.
21 km Half Marathon for Men & Women (Open)
i) 1st Prize: Rs. 2 lakh for men & Rs. 2 lakh for women
ii) 2nd Prize: Rs. 1.5 lakh for men & Rs. 1.5 lakh for women
iii) 3rd Prize : Rs. 1 lakh for men & Rs. 1 lakh for women
iv) 10 Consolation Prizes: @ Rs. 20,000/- for each category will be given to next 10 position holders.
3 km Run for Unity Under 16 Boys & Girls (School Children)
i) 1st prize :Rs. 30,000/- for boys & Rs. 30,000/- for girls
ii) 2nd prize :Rs. 20,000/- for boys & Rs. 20,000/- for girls
iii) 3rd prize :Rs. 10,000/- for boys & Rs. 10,000/- for girls
Track Routes for 21 km Half Marathon (Men & Women):
Starting Point: MG Marg, Gangtok.
Turning Points: Plants Conservatory Centre near Smriti Bhawan, Bulbuley, back to Paljaor Stadium via Bojoghari Phatak through District Court Road.
Finishing Point: Paljor Stadium.
Track Routes for 3 km Run for Unity Under 16 Boys & Girls (School Children)
Starting Point: Nehru Park/Bust, below Mintokgang.
Turning Points: Tashiling Secretariat, Zero Point and Old STNM Hospital Traffic Point through Paljor Stadium Road.
Finishing Point: Paljor Stadium.
The events are expected to be flagged off by the Chief Minister of Sikkim. The department would like to invite all interested athletes, students and interested participants to take part in the respective categories of events with all enthusiasm to make the occasion a grand success, informs a press release.
