GANGTOK: Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay on January 16 officially inaugurated the newly constructed three-story Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Office at Dentam in West Sikkim.
The programme commenced with the unveiling of the inaugural plaque, followed by a detailed inspection of the newly constructed facility by the Chief Minister.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister extended New Year wishes and congratulated the people of the constituency on the establishment of the new SDM office. Emphasizing the importance of a citizen-centric approach, he stressed that public dealings should be conducted in a professional and courteous manner to ensure governance remains accessible to people at the grassroots level.
The Chief Minister highlighted the immense potential of the Maneybong-Dentam constituency as a tourism hub, emphasizing his dedication to transforming it into a prime tourist destination. He detailed several approved and ongoing development projects, including the conversion of the Singshore Bridge into a sky bridge, the establishment of a lake at Utteray, and the construction of a Guru Padmasambhava statue and meditation center.
He also informed the gathering that a proposal has been submitted for upgrading the Chewabhanjyang corridor into an international corridor and for the establishment of a national highway in the region. These initiatives will significantly boost tourism and regional economic growth, enhance visitor experiences and create opportunities for local communities, he added.
The Chief Minister informed the audience that the highest number of job appointments before the elections were made from this constituency and assured that the remaining candidates would be prioritised after the upcoming budget session. He also gave assurances regarding the distribution of houses and GCI sheets allocated before the elections.
The Chief Minister announced the formation of a nine-member Monitoring and Planning Development Committee in every constituency to address major demands effectively. He also informed that mandatory manpower registration would be introduced at every Gram Panchayat level, encouraging locals to take responsibility for basic works themselves.
Calling upon all stakeholders, including public representatives and government officials, to work collectively for the holistic development of the region, CM remarked that developmental projects are meaningful only when they translate into tangible benefits for the people. He urged the local community to take collective ownership of these facilities to ensure their longevity and optimal utilization.
In conclusion, he assured that a public interaction programme would be held soon to directly address the needs of the community, an IPR release informs.
