GANGTOK: The Governor of Sikkim, Om Prakash Mathur conferred the Governor’s Medal to 37 outstanding NCC cadets of the State for their participation in various national and state-level events in a special function held at Ashirvad Bhavan on Tuesday.
The programme was attended by the Education Minister, Raju Basnet, Commissioner cum Secretary, Education department, Raj Yadav, Group Commander of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) for Sikkim and Darjeeling, Brigadier Mukesh Gurung, Secretaries of the Education department, Tashi Chopel and Tenzing Kizom, Commanding Officers, principals and teachers of different colleges, and NCC cadets and host of dignitaries, a Raj Bhavan release informs.
Congratulating the recipient of Governor’s Medal, the Governor his address underlined the significance of NCC, now the world’s largest uniformed youth organization, in preparing the students and youth for future challenges and responsibilities that they have to shoulder.
Mathur said, “NCC provides the platform for youth to hone their leadership skills, prepare them mentally and physically to join armed forces and inculcate the ideals of patriotism and nation first, turning them better and responsible citizen of the country.”
He also called upon the NCC cadets to work with dedication towards building an inclusive and progressive society to realize the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 envisioned by the Hon’ble Prime Minister.
The Governor expressed his happiness that Sikkim was the only state in the entire nation that has the highest concentration of NCC cadets as per population as compared to other states of the country.
Further, the Governor also extended good wishes to all awardees for their bright and successful future ahead.
The Cadets were conferred with the medals in three categories of medals: fifteen gold, fifteen silver and seven bronze medals.
Earlier, Minister for Education, Raju Basnet, in his brief address to the cadets, encouraged more students from Sikkim to join NCC to excel in their chosen field in life ahead. He assured his support and cooperation from the department.
Group Commander, Brigadier Mukesh Gurung presented a detailed overview of the ongoing NCC activities across the state.
During the programme, the ‘Rhythm of Rangit’ NCC Choir from Namchi imbued the Ashirvad Bhavan with a profound sense of patriotism through evocative performances of patriotic songs, including “Jahan Bagchhe Teesta Rangit”, the release mentions.
