GANGTOK: Tribeny Rai’s debut Nepali feature ‘Shape of Momo’ has been officially selected to compete at the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF), where it will have its Indian premiere in the Indian Languages Film Competition category. The KIFF is taking place from November 6 to 13.
Following Kolkata, the Sikkimese filmmaker’s ‘Shape of Momo’ will compete for the ‘Silver Peacock Award’ in the best debut feature film of a Director-Competition in the prestigious International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. Tribeny Rai has also been nominated for ‘Best Debut Director of Indian Feature Film’ competition category during the IFFI Goa scheduled from November 20 to 28.
Further extending its international journey, ‘Shape of Momo’ has also been selected for the Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF), where it will compete in the Asian Feature Film Competition, showcasing the film on a global stage. The protagonist of the film, Gaumaya Gurung has also been nominated for Best Performance in Asian Feature Film Competition. The SGIFF is being held from November 26 to December 7 at Singapore.
Director Tribeny Rai said: “I am very happy… as a film student, I used to attend these very festivals, KIFF and IFFI. These are festivals that shaped my love for cinema and it’s incredibly special to return as a filmmaker this time.”
‘Shape of Momo’ tells the story of Bishnu and her multi-generational family of women navigating societal norms in a traditional Himalayan village, exploring identity, family bonds and the courage to challenge expectations.
