GANGTOK: Sikkim Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba today met with Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Ram Mohan Naidu, to discuss the urgent need to resume flight operations at Pakyong Airport.
During the meeting, Subba emphasized the significant negative impact the airport’s closure has had on tourism, local businesses, and access to emergency healthcare services. He stressed the necessity of restoring flight services by December 2024.
To address the operational challenges, the Lok Sabha MP proposed convening a joint meeting with the Ministry and airline representatives from companies like SpiceJet and IndiGo.
Key issues to be discussed include payload restrictions and the need for pilot training.
Additionally, Subba recommended utilizing Bagdogra Airport as an alternative landing option and suggested implementing the GAGAN navigation system to enhance operational reliability.
In response, the Union Minister assured his full support and cooperation, expressing a commitment to expedite efforts toward the swift restoration of flight services. Subba remains optimistic that these efforts will lead to a positive resolution that will benefit the people of Sikkim, a press release mentions.
