In a major stride towards strengthening healthcare delivery and ensuring swift emergency response, the Government of Sikkim, under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang and the strategic guidance of Hon’ble Health Minister Shri G.T. Dhungel, has launched a comprehensive Emergency Helpline System and enhanced patient navigation services aimed at transforming how healthcare is accessed and delivered across the state. Statewide Emergency Helpline Goes Live on from April 22.
The Emergency Helpline System initiated by the Health & Family Welfare Department will become operational across Sikkim. This critical infrastructure is designed to serve as a lifeline during medical emergencies, with real-time information on: Ambulance availability, accessibility of nearby healthcare centres particularly in cases of road accidents or life threatening events , advance notification to medical facilities when patients are being transported, ensuring timely preparedness and intervention
The system has also been designed to function as a public grievance and suggestion portal, citizens will be able to report operational issues such as water shortages, staff unavailability, or facility-related concerns at District Hospitals, Community Health Centres, Primary Health Centres, and Sub-Centres. Reported issues will be addressed promptly by the appropriate authorities.

This initiative reflects the government’s deep commitment to inclusive, accountable, and responsive healthcare, guided by a governance model that places public welfare at its core. It reinforces the broader development vision of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang, who has consistently emphasized the importance of health security and service accessibility for every citizen.
Complementing the helpline initiative, the Government has also rolled out Help Desk and ROGI Mitra (Patient Care Coordinator) services at STNM Hospital, Sochakgang. These services are designed to improve hospital navigation and support for patients and their families especially those arriving without attendants.
Deployed across all hospital floors, ROGI Mitras and Help Desk personnel will be responsible for: guiding patients to departments, wards, and diagnostic units, assisting with admission, discharge, and treatment procedures, providing access to amenities such as wheelchairs, facilitating communication between patients, medical teams, and administrative staff. These coordinators are trained to provide support with empathy, professionalism, and discretion ensuring no patient feels lost or unattended in the healthcare system.
This intervention marks a crucial step in the government’s mission to humanize healthcare delivery, by not only investing in infrastructure but also enhancing the overall patient experience. It represents a shift towards compassionate governance, where dignity, care, and accessibility are treated as fundamental rights.
The launch of the Emergency Helpline System and the expansion of ROGI Mitra services at STNM Hospital signify a transformative moment in Sikkim’s public healthcare journey. These reforms showcase a model of leadership that is both visionary and responsive, firmly rooted in the needs of the people.
