The visit was aimed at reviewing public infrastructure, encouraging community participation in environmental campaigns, and addressing local concerns through direct engagement with residents and stakeholders, an IPR release informs.
The visit commenced from Chipshu village, where the MLA carried out a detailed inspection of the Primary Health Centre. This was followed by a visit to the newly constructed but currently non-operational 100-bedded hospital.

During the inspection, the MLA directed concerned officials to ensure the timely placement of essential medical equipment such as oxygen cylinders and basic diagnostic tools. She highlighted the urgency of operational readiness in view of the upcoming Mansarovar Yatra, which is scheduled to begin later this month. The directive also included follow-up on staffing and logistical requirements to support patient care and emergency services during the Yatra season.
As part of the day’s programme, a plantation drive was held under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, an initiative of the Forest and Environment Department, Gangtok Division.
Another significant component of the event was the implementation of the “Mero Rukh Mero Santati” scheme. This initiative, envisioned by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, encourages families to plant 108 saplings in recognition of the birth of a child.
During the event, certificates and saplings were distributed to parents of newborns from the area. The scheme aims to link personal milestones with ecological contribution, promoting a long-term perspective on environmental preservation and family responsibility. The distribution event was met with active participation and expressions of support from the community.
In a separate segment of the visit, Mrs Lepcha inaugurated the newly installed “I Love Tsomgo” selfie point near Tsomgo Lake. The installation is a collaborative effort between the Tsomgo Pokhri Sanrakshan Samiti and the Forest and Environment Department, Gangtok Division. Positioned near the lake, the structure is expected to serve as a visual attraction for tourists, helping to increase footfall and generate awareness about local heritage and ecology.
The visit continued with an inspection of the Tsomgo Ropeway facility. During the site visit, the MLA interacted with local stakeholders, including small business owners, vendors, and service providers operating in the area. She listened to their feedback on current challenges such as seasonal fluctuation in visitor numbers, lack of storage facilities, and limitations in roadside amenities. She acknowledged the issues raised and assured the stakeholders that necessary steps would be taken in coordination with relevant departments to address the concerns.
Mrs Lepcha also visited the Tsomgo Shopping Complex, where she met members of the local business community. She took note of various grievances related to infrastructure maintenance, water supply, licensing, and waste management. Responding to their submissions, she conveyed that follow-up actions would be initiated with concerned authorities to ensure timely redressal.
The visit was marked by active public engagement, inspection of ongoing developmental work, and reinforcement of community-centred policies. Through the day-long programme, the MLA emphasised the need for coordination between administrative bodies, local residents, and support agencies to foster progress and sustainable growth in the region, the IPR release informs.
